Until recently I had perfect internet (wi fi), but then "local only problem" appeared. Still can't manage to solve it. Interesting thing is I can access to internet everywhere but not at home. I live with 3 more people ( we are students ), all of them can connect to that internet but not me. Don't know what to do. I have windows 7. Reinstalled it twice, tried to fix that problem by using above mentioned ways of solution but unsuccessfully.

How come that i can connect everywhere but not at home? But my roommates can connect at home. Are they cheaters blocked my IP somehow? Damn it!

Little help here please.

We have had this problem and may have fixed it, but we are newbies but thought we would share after we compared two laptops running Vista Premium, one working on Internet one not (showing local access only).
We right clicked wireless network connection, properties, continue, configure, advanced tab, and changed ad hoc channel from 11 to 10 and changed channel width band from 20 MHz to auto and restarted and all seems fine. Hope this helps and good luck!

My problem: I could not see any wireless computers on the network from the win 7 pc. They could all connect to the internet through the modem. And the ps3 detected Win media player on Win 7 pc as a media server when first set up then disappeared.
My solution: turn off Homegroups in win 7. When I did this the media server/s disappeared. After a few minutes the wireless computers appeared at the bottom of the network map (in Win 7, Network & sharing centre)
To get my ps3 to Go into Win Media Player. because the media servers were deleted I then opened the media player > stream and ticked all the options except no.1. A dialog appeared asking if I wanted to allow the sharing. When I accepted the media server then appeared on the ps3.
Other settings:
I had earlier turned off password protection sharing (Change advanced sharing settings). In Choose media streaming options > Show devices on All networks. If you see unknown device is may be the ps3 (check the mac address when you click its name against the one you entered on the ps3 conection cofiguration to be sure). Allow the device to access all media. This took a long time to achieve and it may not hold as it disappeared before. Good luck.

Internet was working well since activation from the service provider until a coupla days later. we took the PC(Win 7) to our ISP and they did some 'installation' thingy but still no connectivity. Theres both connectivity 'IP 4/IP6 ticked - and haven't tried yet to untick either of them. And coming in now too to look up solutions online... by the way this is from the Isle in the southern Seas.

My wireless connection was going down after every restart. But I could always get it up again in two ways:

(1) Shutdown. Then power-up.

(2) Disable wireless adapter. Enable.

I've now unchecked IPv6, and my connection no longer goes down after a restart. Why? Don't know.

But thank you!

I've been having the same issue, specifically when switching between two wireless connections, one will work and the other will give me a unidentified network. When I disable/enable the wireless card, I can connect to either network on the first try, however when I then try to connect to the other network, it can't connect. It's as if the wireless adapter 'likes' only one connection per disable/enable.

A quasi-solution I have found was to install lenovo's (I'm on a T60) wireless drivers and use their software for connecting (access connections, link below). I'm not happy that I need 3rd party software for something that win 7 should do out of the box, but at least it can now connect to either of the two connections without a disable/enable of the wireless adapter.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/s...
