Poppy

No particular reason for this picture, other than I like poppy flowers, and they look really summery against a blue sky :-)

Dutch Orange

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Today was the first game the Netherlands had to play in the FIFA World Cup, so this morning, the boys went to church in style:

Orange it is!

Gabriël was a bit more daring than Tiago – he even wanted his hair painted orange!

Since we weren’t home in the afternoon, I had programmed the VCR to record the game (started 3pm), and they watched it when we got home. When I went to check on them [1], they had dressed up the TV-set in anything orange they could find – caps, sweat bands, T-shirt, toys…

TV-set in World Cup style (Dutch version)

Although they hardly know any rules to the game, they still shouted like any other male watching the championships – the only way I could tell they were my own kids, was by the lack of six-packs and the repeated question "Mom, why don’t they just make more goals?"

[1] – Someone whom I won’t name here (Hi Mom!) had accidentally blurted out the final score of the game when I got home, but I managed to keep it a secret from the boys, which explains why they were watching it by themselves. ;-)
